What's the big deal about smoking a little weed? you may ask. The problem is that it may
lead one to take stronger drugs.
And then we have an addiction problem on our hands, don't we!

Marijuana is a cannabinoid plant. Cannabis is a drug that comes from Indian hemp plants such
as Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica.
It is often called on the street toke, Mary Jane, wacky tobacco, Mary Jane, buds, dope, pot,
joints, grass, reefer, weed, spliffs, hash, herb, mull, buddha, ganja, stick, buckets, cones,
skunk, hydro, yarndi, hooch, smoke- and the butt of a marijuana cigarette is called a roach.

Recreational marijuana is taken to give one a high as it is psychoactive or mind-altering.
But cannabis is a depressant drug that
slows down the messages going between the brain and the body that can result in slowed thinking
and reaction time, confusion, impaired balance and coordination, cough, frequent respiratory
infections, impaired memory and learning, increased heart rate, anxiety, and panic attacks just
to mention a few. The cause of these problems is a chemical known as delta-9-THC.
Scientists have used radio-activity to trace this chemical in the human
body. They found that it takes five to eight days for just half the THC in a single marijuana
cigarette to clear from the body. Anyone for a drug test?
What Can it Do to One's Sex Life?
It appears that the THC in marijuana is soluble in fat and is attracted to one's fatty brain
and sex organs- in particular, one's testes or ovaries. It takes awhile for this to
gradually clear from the body. Some long term significant recreational marijuana users have
impotence or fewer orgasms. It appears that medical tests have shown that many of
these men have a lowered sperm count or a decrease in sperm mobility.
What are some of the regular drawbacks of using recreational marijuana?
Some of these drawbacks might include a general sence of feeling bad, anxiety, sleeplessness,
sweating, a lack of appetite, nausea, apathy. To compound this, in regards to younger users,
there may be trouble at home and poor grades at school.
Something to watch for in some users is what is called cannabis psychosis- a serious mental
illness linked to THC to some degree.
What are the treatment options for someone who wants to quit using this drug?
Generally, if one wants to quit using marijuana, all they have to do is quit using it.
But due to any long term addition or compulsion it may not be all that easy for some.
Currently no super medications for treating recreational marijuana addiction are
available. Instead, treatment programs focus on one's choice to admit he or she has a problem,
one's choice to not use it anymore, and one's choice to be involved in any counseling and
group support systems for recovery. If one has a strong problem and one refuses to deal with
it properly, it may lead one to taking stronger drugs. And taking stronger drugs for some can
be dangerous. If that is the case for you, do not forget that God loves you and has the power
to break your addiction if you will turn to Him, repent, and ask Him to heal you. You have
great worth to God and nothing is too hard for Him.
Do not ever rule God out. He is the first One who you should turn to when you have a problem. Our young people in America are under attack and it's not God's will that we lose one of them. The church should not shoot it's wounded.
At one time I knew a devout Christian man who had a drinking alcohol addiction left over from his unsaved life style. He trusted the Lord to help him break his addiction but nothing happened at first. But he persevered anyways. Then one day, when he didn't even know it, the Lord did something deep in his life and his addiction was completely broken. Jesus Christ broke the chains of his addiction.
We used to sing an old church chorus "The Lion of Judah will break every chain and give
to us the victory again and again." That happened 54 years ago and the man does not drink to this day.
Rev. David Wilkerson in his book, The Cross and The Switchblade, stated that there was only one thing that would permanently break the heroin addiction of young people on the streets of New York City. That one thing was the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
(according to Acts 2:4). If a person had that power of God in their life, following their salvation experience with Christ, they could be an overcomer and not relapse back into heroin addiction again unless they wanted to.
If you or someone you know has a current marijuana addiction all hope is not lost. Offer them salvation through Jesus Christ first. Then influence them to receive the
Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4) complete with speaking in tongues. God is the One to break any addiction in any sincere Christian's life.
Here is some practical advice how to go about it.
Once Christ comes to literally live inside of your heart take your surplus illegal drugs and throw them away. Then find the nearest bible believing church and make an appointment to speak with the pentecostal pastor there. Explain to him what has just happened to you and he will help you get into God's word and help you get sound Biblical teaching. If he cannot help you directly I am sure that he will be able to find someone who can.
Once you are strong in the resurrection power of Jesus Christ the pastor will encourage you to receive the power of the Holy Spirit in a subsequent act of spiritual baptism
(Acts 2:4). This dynamic power from God is greater than anything that Satan has to offer. You need this power to help you live the Christian life and to help you fight against the power of relapsing back to your addiction. And God is always happy to share His power with you when you ask in faith.
No one ever said it would be easy but I am confident that you can do it if you want to.
