John, to the seven churches that are in Asia- grace to you and peace from Him who is and who
was and who is to come, and from the Seven Spirits who are before His throne
(Revelation 1:4).
and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over
the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood
(Revelation 1:5).
Revelation 1:4
(Written by God through the Apostle) John, to the seven (select) churches that are in
Asia- (greetings) grace and peace to you- from Him who is and who was and who is to
come, and from the Seven Spirits who are before His throne.
God the Father is the One who sits on the throne in Heaven. He sends greetings to you
(eirene in Greek meaning peace) and to the Seven Churches of Asia. There were more than
seven churches in Asia but God selected these seven as representatives at that time...the seven
churches that are in Asia- to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to
Philadelphia, and to Laodicea (Revelation 1:11). And there are more than seven churches
today- each under His watchful eye and the watchful eye of the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ.
It appears that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit share a throne in Heaven:
Revelation 1:5
The seven churches were in Asia or what we know today in history as Asia minor.
Asia comprised a large part of the known world at that time. At first, Greece ruled that
area for many years but then the Romans conquered that area some time later.
King Attalus III, King of Pergamos, gave the entire area to the Romans that included
the smaller kingdoms of Phrygia, Mysia, Lycaonia, Lydia, Pisidia, and more. Then
the area was governed by a Roman proconsul. The area around Lydia was named Ionia-
of which Ephesus was the principal city.
The term "Asia" did not mean in the first century what it does now, but only
the Roman province called Asia. The western part of this providence was known as Asia
Minor (now a part of the nation of Turkey). All the seven churches were in that province.
General Jesus has ordered each church to share Christ's gospel with every
person on the face of this earth-
And He (Jesus) said to them, "you go into all the world, and preach the
gospel to every person"
(Mark 16:15).
In other words this commandment scripture in Mark simply means to share His Word with others.
Is your church obeying its orders from General Jesus, the Lord of Armies?
[...before His throne]
There are some thrones revealed in the Revelation Scrolls. Let us take a brief look at some of
them-
The throne of God the Father is revealed in several Revelation scrolls:
It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One-
...before His throne
(Revelation 1:4).
To him who overcomes I will grant to sit...down with My Father on His throne
(Revelation 3:21).
...a throne set in Heaven, and One sat on
the throne (Revelation 4:2)...before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal...
(Revelation 4:6)...whenever the Living Beings give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits
on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits
on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the
throne, saying- You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power- for You created
all things, and by Your will they exist and were created
(Revelation 4:9-11).
(Revelation 5:13)...
(Revelation 7:9-12).
Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given
much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar
that was before the throne
(Revelation 8:3).
And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.
Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of
the temple of Heaven- from the throne, saying- It is done!
(Revelation 16:16-17).
(Revelation 19:4-5).
In some societies of the past, a wide throne was utilized to allow two rulers to sit on it
at the same time. It appears that the throne of God the Father and the throne of God the Son
are the same in Heaven.
The throne of Christ is revealed in the scrolls of Revelation:
It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eight-
To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame
and sat down with My Father on His throne
(Revelation 3:21).
She (Israel) bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child
was caught up to God and His throne
(Revelation 12:5).
And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the
throne of God and of the Lamb (Revelation 22:1)...and there shall be no more curse, but the
throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him
(Revelation 22:3).
Christ mentioned His throne-
So Jesus said to them- assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the
Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve
thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel
(Matthew 19:28).
Christ...has made us kings...to His God and Father...
(Revelation 1:5-6).
Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? (1 Corinthians 6:2).
This is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One-
John, to the seven churches that are in Asia...from the Seven Spirits Who are
in the presence of the same throne
(Revelation 1:4).
And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven Lamps of Fire
were burning in the presence of the throne that are the Seven Spirits of God
(Revelation 4:5).
And I looked, and behold, in the middle of the throne and of the four Living Beings,
and in the midle of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns
and seven eyes, that are the Seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth
(Revelation 5:6).
God's Unity
I and My Father are one (John 10:30)...and the glory that You gave Me I have given them- that
they may be one just as We are one
(John 17:22).
and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler
over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own
blood.
God the Father and God the Holy Spirit have already said "hello" to you, so now,
Jesus says "hello" to you also.
This scripture speaks of the eternal existence of Jesus Christ because He is God the Son.
Jesus repeats this truth about Himself in verse eight.
You have just been greeted by the three Persons in the Holy Trinity. These three are one and
are the most important, holy, and powerful in all of creation.
Jesus Christ as a true and faithful witness is seen in the scrolls of Revelation:
It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One-
...and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness (Revelation 1:5).
and it is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eight-
...these things says...the Faithful and True Witness (Revelation 3:14).
(Jeremiah 42:5).
(John 5:36).
Jesus answered and said to them- even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true
(John 8:14)...I AM One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me
(John 8:18).
Jesus answered them- I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father's
name, they bear witness of Me. But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you
(John 10:25-26).
...I AM a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the
world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice
(John 18:37).
(Luke 4:22).
(1 Timothy 6:13).
