Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The Devil will throw some of you into prison and put you to the test. You will be persecuted for ten days. Remain faithful even when facing death, and I will give you the crown of life
(Revelation 2:10).

He who has a (spiritual) ear, let him hear what the (Holy) Spirit says to the churches- he who Overcomes will not be hurt by the second death
(Revelation 2:11).

Are there any Bible scriptures that might help us understand these verses here in Revelation? In my opinion I think so-

Revelation 2:10
Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The Devil will throw some of you into prison and put you to the test. You will be persecuted for ten days. Remain faithful even when facing death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Suffering, Persecution, and Death

This is a test for Overcomers. Remember, those who are hostile to you are not really attacking you but the Jesus inside of you. God reveals the hostility of the wicked towards God's righteous in several scrolls of Revelation:

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Four-
...Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you...(Revelation 2:13).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Nine-
...their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were...(Revelation 6:11).

It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them...(Revelation 13:7).

It is revealed several times in Revelation Scroll Number Ten-
For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets (Revelation 16:6).

I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus
(Revelation 17:6).

These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings- and those who are with Him are called chosen and faithful
(Revelation 17:14).

And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints (Revelation 18:24).

And it is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eleven-
They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of Heaven and devoured them
(Revelation 20:9).

Are there other scrolls in the bible that appear to reveal this? Yes-
But I tell you not to withstand a wicked man, but if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other to him as well
(Matthew 5:39).

And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved
(Matthew 10:22).

Remember the word that I said to you- a servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you...
(John 15:20).

The Test

I am not writing a major commentary in this book, however, this test may take a little simple explaining. First, there is God. Secondly, there is Satan. Thirdly, there is your free will choice. The test is simple and it is for every person on earth. This is the test- who will you choose to worship, God or Satan? This test has been going on since the creation of modern mankind. Adam and Eve were tested and changed their allegiance from God to Satan (Romans chapter 5). The children of Adam and Eve were tested- Abel chose God, Cain chose Satan, and Seth chose God. And then we get down to you and I. You were not asked to be born. It was not your will to be here on this earth but God has a purpose for your existence- He wants you to choose Him, therefore, you and I have to be put to the test to determine that.

God reveals the test in several scrolls of Revelation:

It is revealed here in Revelation Scroll Number Three-
...the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested
(Revelation 2:10).

and it is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Seven-
...the hour of trial that shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth
(Revelation 3:10).

Are there other scrolls in the bible that appear to reveal this? Yes- here are just a few:

Jesus passed the test (Matthew 4:1-11).

And Elijah came to all the people, and said- how long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him- but if Baal, follow him
(1 Kings 18:21).

And the Angel of the Lord said to Elijah- go down with him- do not be afraid of him. So he arose and went down with him to the king. Then he said to him- thus says the Lord- because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die. So Ahaziah died according to the word of the Lord that Elijah had spoken
(2 Kings 1:15-17).

But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand- and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house- and it fell. And great was its fall
(Matthew 7:26-27).

and there are many more examples not listed here.

The Crown of Life

What does this crown mean? In symbolism it simply means eternal life. Eternal life will be given as a reward to each of God's Overcomers. Also a crown can be a symbol for righteousness and honor. Christ revealed the truth that He was a king (Luke 23:3). In symbolism, one who wears more than one crown is above all those who only wear one crown. Christ wears many crowns- that means He is King of Kings.

God reveals a crown in several scrolls of Revelation:

It is revealed here in Revelation Scroll Number Three-
...be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
(Revelation 2:10).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Seven-
I AM coming quickly- cling to that which you already possess, so that your crown of victory be not taken away from you
(Revelation 3:11 Weymouth New Testament).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Ten-
Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle
(Revelation 14:14).

and it is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eleven-
His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself
(Revelation 19:12).

Are there other scrolls in the bible that appear to reveal this? Yes. Here are a few-

Blessed is he who patiently endures trials- for when he has stood the test, he will gain the victor's crown- even the crown of Life- that the Lord has promised to those who love Him
(James 1:12 Weymouth New Testament).

...there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, that the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing
(2 Timothy 4:8).

...and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away
(1 Peter 5:4).

And every man who takes part in the sports has self-control in all things. Now they do it to get a crown that is of this world, but we for an eternal crown
(1 Corinthians 9:25 Basic English).

Revelation 2:11

He who has a (spiritual) ear, let him hear what the (Holy) Spirit says to the churches- he who Overcomes will not be hurt by the second death.

The Second Death

Let us consider death. Every individual on earth will die except those who go in the rapture of the church. Every individual's death is known as the first death. The righteous dead are rewarded, but the wicked dead go to court and are judged on the basis of their works. Their sentence will be eternal damnation. They will be thrown alive into the lake of fire. That is what is known as the second death.

God reveals the second death in several scrolls of Revelation:

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Three-
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death
(Revelation 2:11).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eleven-
Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over these, the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him one thousand years
(Revelation 20:6).

Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death- the lake of fire
(Revelation 20:14).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Twelve
...but for the cowardly, unbelieving, sinners, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars- their part is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur- that is the second death
(Revelation 21:8).

Jesus gave this parable about a man who was saturated with sin. He was invited to accept Jesus Christ but refused. He died the first death. The wedding feast of eternal bliss was taking place in Heaven. His sin, with his choice for Satan, made him out of place but he wanted in anyways (in Heaven he did not have white wedding clothing on- meaning that he was not forgiven of his sins through the shed blood of Jesus Christ). God hates sin and does not want it in Heaven with Him. Then he (the king) said to his servants- the wedding is ready, but they who were invited (all of humanity) were not worthy [because they did not come by Jesus Christ Who is the way (John 14:6)]. Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage feast. Those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together as many (repentant) as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests. But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on (white) wedding clothing, and he said to him- friend, how did you come in here not having (white) wedding clothing? He was speechless. Then the king said to the servants- bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into outer darkness- there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be
(Matthew 22:8-13).

The lake of fire is symbolically located in outer darkness away from the light and presence of God as the garbage dump of the universe. It is down wind of Heaven (so to speak) because of the stench of the place. So, this man, not washed in the blood of Jesus (not having on white wedding clothing in symbolism), was thrown alive into the lake of fire to eternally suffer. This is the second death.

But the second death does not have to happen to any individual who does not love the Lord. Christ has made a way of escape. That way of escape is through Jesus Christ only. Here is a message that explains this way of escape while a person is still alive on planet earth-
