If your faith is not strong enough to change your behavior,
it will never change your destiny
Revelation 1:11
(Revelation 1:9).
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day and I heard a loud voice behind me- a voice that sounded
like a trumpet blast saying-
(Revelation 1:10)
I AM the Alpha and Omega- the First and the Last- and what you see, write
in a scroll and send to the seven churches- to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis,
Philadelphia, and to Laodicea
(Revelation 1:11).
I John, your brother- who has a part with you in persecution and the kingdom and
the perseverance of Jesus- was on the island that is named Patmos, for the word of God
and the witness of Jesus.
The Apostle John is the Author of Revelation
The twelve scrolls of Revelation were written by the Apostle John. In his gospel he referred to
himself as "the one who Jesus loved"
(John 13:23, 20:2, 21:7, 21:20). He was persecuted- Christ asked him one time if he would
choose to drink from the cup of Christ's suffering and be baptized with His baptism of death
(Matthew 20:22). The Romans tried to kill him but God worked a miracle and saved his life.
After his attempted murder failed, he was sent to prison. The island of Patmos contained a
prison and it was where some Roman prisoners were sent to
carry out their sentences. John was sent there under the domain of Emperor Domitian but was
later released under Nerva. From there he went to Ephesus where he lived for the rest
of his life.
Revelation 1:10
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day and I heard a loud
voice behind me- a voice that sounded like a trumpet blast- saying...
This experience is revealed in several scrolls of Revelation-
It is revealed here in Revelation Scroll Number One-
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day (Revelation 1:10).
Immediately I was in the Spirit and behold, a throne set in Heaven, and One sat
on the throne...
(Revelation 4:2).
So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness...(Revelation 17:3).
And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed
me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of Heaven from God...
(Revelation 21:10).
(Ezekiel 37:1).
...he will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the
hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make
ready a people prepared for the Lord
(Luke 1:17).
...for he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one
understands him- however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries
(1 Corinthians 14:2).
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit- that is the word of
God- praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit...
(Ephesians 6:17-18).
Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. Now as
they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said- see, here is water. What
hinders me from being baptized? Then Philip said- if you believe with all your heart, you may.
And he answered and said- I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. So he commanded the
chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he
baptized him. Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip
away, so that the eunuch saw him no more- and he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was
found at Azotus. And passing through, he preached in all the cities till he came to Caesarea
(Acts 8:35-40).
"In the spirit" here simply means that God was strongly anointing John with Himself.
In other words, God the Holy Spirit is powerfully upon and within a person. For example, one day in
1967, I preached at the Watsonville rescue mission (in California) under the anointing of
God the Holy Spirit. I was in the Spirit. The words I preached were shown by God to me
as though typed on a ticker tape ribbon that moved across the inner screen of my mind. All I
had to do was to verbally preach what I saw in my mind by the Spirit of God. God gave a
message to the congregation through me. God did the work and He gets the glory.
After I finished, five men came forward to the altar for salvation. One of the men spoke to
me and told me he was going back home- he had been away from his family for too long of a
period of time- God can and does heal families. So, it appears that the purpose of God's
anointing and "being in the spirit" is for God to lovingly help or change the lives
of some folks. To God be the glory!
I AM the Alpha and Omega- the First and the Last- and what you see, write
in a scroll and send to the seven churches- to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis,
Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.
